Job Description
Introduction
The Malawi-Liverpool-Wellcome Research Programme (MLW) (https://devsite.mlw.mw) is an internationally recognised centre for research and research training, affiliated to the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS). MLW has 2 aims, to conduct excellent research to benefit health and train the next generation of researchers and leaders. Our Blantyre-based offices located within the vicinity of the largest hospital in Malawi, Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) provide for the optimum research environment, and our Lilongwe office, based in area 3, provides proximity to national policy stakeholders to strength our research-to-policy linkages.
The programme is seeking a capable and forward-thinking individual to assume the following roles in its Policy Unit:
Research Scientist (2 Posts- Blantyre and Lilongwe)
The successful individual will play a vital role in advancing evidence-based policy-making and impactful research-to-policy linkages. S/he will support the evolving programme of research, learning and policy engagement work across a range of research and knowledge translation programmes. S/he will contribute to generating research evidence that strengthens the research-policy interface, supports priority SDGs policy questions, and fosters stakeholder engagement. S/he will lead a rapid response research helpdesk service, and mentor MLW staff on knowledge translation and other policy-related topics. The applicants must have PhD in a health-related field, proven leadership in health policy research, excellent interpersonal skills and a minimum 3 years’ experience.
Policy Fellow (2 posts-Blantyre and Lilongwe)
The Policy Fellow will contribute to enhancing MLW’s policy impact and influence at various governance levels. S/he will work closely with the research scientists to address research evidence needs of national and sub-national policymakers. S/he will facilitate stakeholder engagements and contribute to the research agenda of the Policy Unit. With a master’s degree and at least 2 years of experience in health policy and systems research, the successful candidate will strengthen the research-policy interface and promote good practices in the field.
Post Masters Social Scientist (1 Post-Blantyre)
Post-Masters Social will be conducting photo voice workshops, participatory workshops, and M&E activities in Blantyre and Chikwawa. S/he will be collaborating closely with our team to understand community perceptions of climate change on health, promote dialogue, and implement interventions. Applicants should have a master’s degree in a relevant discipline, extensive experience in qualitative research, and proficiency in Chichewa and English.
Policy Unit Coordinator (1 post- Blantyre)
Policy Unit Coordinator will play a pivotal role in ensuring the success of projects at MLW. As the cornerstone of the Policy Unit, the successful candidate will oversee operations, manage administrative tasks, and ensure adherence to protocols. With a bachelor’s degree and 3 years of experience in research coordination and project management, the successful candidate will coordinate activities, engage stakeholders, manage timelines, and support the dissemination of study findings.
