What defines this Theme?
Clinical Medicine refers to studies taking place in the hospital or community, directly related to patients. These studies include surveys to determine the burden of disease and associated factors, and clinical trials intervening to improve outcome. Experimental medicine is a broad term. It refers to investigations undertaken in humans, relating where appropriate to model systems, to do either of the following:
What are the aims of the Theme?
Our Theme is open to anyone interested in clinical care, disease pathogenesis and innovations to prevent and treat illness.

These studies include surveys to determine the burden of disease and associated factors, and clinical trials intervening to improve outcome. Experimental medicine is a broad term. It refers to investigations undertaken in humans, relating where appropriate to model systems, to do either of the following:
- identify mechanisms of pathophysiology or disease.
- demonstrate proof-of-concept evidence of the validity and importance of new discoveries or treatments.
What are the aims of the Theme?
- To support clinical and experimental researchers to identify important questions, design excellent studies and successfully conduct these studies in appropriate facilities.
- To further enhance the quality of our work, by sharing information, catalysing collaboration, and welcoming new investigators to the Theme.
