Donales Kapira Bags a Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (RSTMH) Small Grant

A laboratory technician in the Neglected Tropical Disease Research Group on the HUGS study, Donales secured a core pre-MSc training grant in 2023 and is currently working on hybrid schistosomes and anemia, supervised by Prof. Janelisa Musaya and Dr. Sekeleghe Kayuni. She indicates that the research environment has provided her with invaluable networking and mentorship.

“MLW is like a hub for innovative ideas, and this is what ultimately contributed to my success in securing this research grant”. The ÂŁ4824 award from NIHR through the RSTMH supports a year-long project investigating “Prevalence and pregnancy outcomes associated with Trypanosomiasis in women from Nkhotakota and Rumphi districts in Malawi.”

“I feel overjoyed, honoured and humbled, as NTDs and women’s health are something I have passion and this comes as validation for me and will enable me to collect preliminary data on a field that I think is barely studied,” Donales shared.

Congratulations Donales!!!
