Karen M Lombe
SCI4O Administrator | BSc in Medical Microbiology
I provide administrative support for SCI4O by offering administrative advice to members of the SCI4O team, and supporting communication and cohesion within the initiative and its activities. I also organize the initiatives meetings, take meeting minutes, and event diaries, and follow up on action plans. Additionally, I maintain a filing system, records and reports.
“I was the student who never had a teacher, and I was the teacher who never had a student. I was the one who never had a mentor, and I was the one who never had a mentee. I was the one who never had a guide, and I was the one who never had a follower. But I was the one who never gave up, and I was the one who never stopped searching. And in the end, I found what I was looking for. And now I am here to share it with you.” _unknown
This quote perfectly depicts my journey with science. Growing up, I did not know Malawi had scientists and let alone that I could become one. Needless to say my journey was one with little guidance. I joined my first year of university with little knowledge of what Microbiology was. Looking back, the journey would have been smoother if I had an initiative such as this in my time. And that is why I am very passionate about inspiring the next generation of scientists. That is also why I always volunteer to lead events like career guidance days. Science for All is the perfect platform for me to serve and to provide for a need that was never fulfilled for most young Malawians.
