MLW Trains Journalists on Health Research Reporting

Fifteen journalists from various media houses were equipped with knowledge and skills on Health Research Reporting in The Newsroom on 7May 2021 during one of the monthly media interactive meetings organised by the Communications and Public Engagement Department.

Peter Nambala from Neglected and Tropical Diseases Research Group and Chifundo Ndamala, Bertha Maseko and Chifundo Kandoni from Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health Research Group took turns to present their study objectives, progress, and findings with the journalists.

Peter Nambala shared insights on genetic determinants of neglected tropical diseases and Chifundo Ndamala, Bertha Maseko and Chifundo Kandoni unpacked information on maternal, neonatal and child health.

One of the journalists from ‘MIJ FM’ Mwakhele Kaliande said, “Such interactions between journalists and researchers provide a platform for fact verification which is helpful to avoid inaccuracies and misinformation.”

The Monthly Media Interactive Meetings are part of the Journalist-in-Residence Programme.
